3-Day Before Halloween Itinerary
Thursday, October 24
Check into the Refuge Inn and begin your adventures! Stop by the Village Restaurant for an early dinner from their Virginia is for Lovers Menu, and unwind afterwards in the enclosed and heated pool and hot tub back at the Refuge.
Friday, October 25
Bundle up and take bike ride, or walk on the beach at low tide to search for shells. Consider Black Fin Island Grill & Tapas Lounge for a delicious local dinner. Enjoy their Smoked Salmon Flatbread, Poke Tuna Tacos, or one of their weekly tapas specials. No matter what you choose, you will not be disappointed. Afterwards, visit Island Theatre on Main Street for a special showing of War of the Worlds at 7 pm.
Saturday, October 26
Visit the Chincoteague Island Farmers and Artisans Market on its final Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm. Enjoy live music and cooler temperatures as you peruse paintings, knitted crafts, decoys, handmade soaps, and more. The market offers a variety of produce and food from local farms to snack on throughout your stay. Stop by Amarin Coffee for your morning coffee and a pastry before you begin your shopping fun to stay warm and energized for the day ahead.
In the afternoon, visit Sandy Sky’s Gift Shop on Main Street. There, you will find a variety of island themed souvenirs that support local artisans! It is never too early to start holiday shopping for your friends, your family, and even yourself!
Weekday Bonus Event!
Tuesday, October 29
Join the Museum of Chincoteague for its Spooky Scavenger Hunt and Halloween Movie Night! This special event will be held from 6-7:30 pm and admission is free. Adults and children are encouraged to wear their favorite Halloween costumes. A special Halloween movie will follow the scavenger hunt. Check out the Island Creamery for a special snack before or after this event. Open until 9pm, the Chincoteague location has over 30 varieties of ice cream flavors to choose from, including seasonal fall flavors Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream and Apple Cider Sorbet! You can even take home an ice cream cake for the whole family.
3- Day Halloween Weekend Itinerary
Thursday, October 31
Check in to the Refuge Inn and get into the Halloween spirit! Then, from 4-7pm, the Chincoteague Island Historic Main Street Merchants will present their annual Trick-or-Treat Main Street event. Island residents and visitors alike are invited to dress up and visit participating merchants. Join our friends on Main Street for this evening of wonder and excitement. Enjoy dinner at Bill’s Prime Seafood and Steaks on Main Street. Open until 9pm, this is the ideal location to enjoy a delicious meal after taking in the holiday sights on the island.
Friday, November 1
Call to schedule a visit to the oldest home on the island, The Captain Timothy Hill House. Learn about the home’s humble beginnings in the 1800s, its long life, and its restoration in 2008. In the evening, visit the Chincoteague Cultural Alliance on Church Street for the opening evening of the play You Again by Maria Burns at 6pm. Dinner will be catered by Better, a favorite local food truck on the island. Tickets are on sale now and are likely to sell out quickly. Saturday, November 2
Head to Assateague Island to enjoy a cool weather climb to the top of the Assateague Lighthouse. Whether you climb the stairs to the top or enjoy your time on the ground, visitors will enjoy the serene views and perfect fall temperatures. The Assateague Lighthouse is open from 10am-3pm, and it is only open through Thanksgiving weekend this year, so be sure to take advantage of this opportunity while you can. Later, enjoy dinner from the Virginia is for Lovers menu at The Village Restaurant on Maddox Boulevard. Follow their Facebook page for delicious menu updates like the Oyster Shooters made with fresh Chincoteague Salts on Fridays and Saturdays.
