July 4 is the perfect time to answer that call because we are ready to celebrate independence in style this month! If you have a long weekend before you and need summer plans to fill it up, we encourage you to join us for a relaxing, fun-filled weekend on Chincoteague Island. 

Adventure Seekers

Adventure lovers will enjoy Paddle with the Ponies on Saturday, July 1. This trip will begin at 9 a.m. and last until 3 p.m. Kayakers will view the famous Chincoteague ponies and historic lighthouse from the water, swim, have lunch on the sandbar, and bird watch! Participation for adults is $130, and it includes the kayak and lunch. Spots for children are just $65 in a tandem with an adult. To reserve your spot, call 757-710-5137. 

Summer Fun

The Chincoteague Fire Company Carnival opens on Saturday, July 1 from 7-10 p.m. Enjoy all of your favorite carnival food, rides, and games. The carnival is open on June 30, July 1, 3, and 4 this year. The evening of July 4 will end with a fireworks display at 10 p.m. After July 4, the carnival will close until July 21, so don’t miss out on this early taste of the Chincoteague Fire Company Carnival! 

Although the carnival will be closed on July 2, there will be no shortage of activities to enjoy on the island. Maui Jacks Waterpark will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. all weekend. Waterslides, a lazy river, and more await at this exciting location! Amenities include Keko’s Bar & Grill, a concession’s stand, giant versions of Jenga and Connect Four, and rentable cabanas for relaxing poolside. If you forgot the necessities, visit their gift shop to purchase sunscreen or park swag. Life vests and certified lifeguards are onsite. Return on July 3 to participate in Mermaid Monday from 1-3 p.m. 

Entertainment

Musical entertainment will be available throughout the island this weekend. Enjoy a free concert by the Salisbury Community Band at Robert Reed Waterfront Park on July 1 at 7 p.m. Audiences will be inspired to move their feet by patriotic songs, light classical music, and show tunes. This is a fun family event sponsored by the Chincoteague Cultural Alliance. For those needing a break from the great outdoors, the Island Theatre will show the film 1776 on July 3 during Main Stage Mondays. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the show begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and children.
